M108 is a beautiful edge-on barred spiral galaxy in Ursa Major.
The long, narrow disk displays rich dust lanes that extend along its entire length.
The core is relatively faint and compact, while the halo contains subtle structures that become visible in longer exposures. Due to its edge-on orientation, M108 is an ideal object for photographing fine dust details and vertical halo outflow.
