M109 • NGC 3992 • Barred Spiral Galaxy

M109 — NGC 3992 — Barred Spiral Galaxy
M109 is an elegant barred spiral galaxy with a strikingly long central bar that dominates the spiral structure. The arms are subtle but rich in fine dust lanes and star-forming regions. Due to its relatively large distance, M109 is less bright than many other Messier galaxies, but in longer exposures, the structure comes out beautifully. A classic spring object in Ursa Major that offers plenty of detail for those with patience.
