M77 — NGC 1068 — Seyfert Galaxy
M77 is one of the best‑known active galaxies in the Messier catalogue. It contains a powerful Seyfert II nucleus, driven by a supermassive black hole that emits enormous amounts of energy. Around the core lie complex gas structures, ionisation regions, and dust lanes that become beautifully visible in deep exposures. The spiral arms are rich in star formation and show a mix of blue young clusters and red dust zones.
