Rupes Altai is a long, sharp escarpment forming part of the southeastern rim of the Nectaris impact basin. Its steep, cliff‑like profile and sweeping curvature make it one of the most striking linear features on the lunar surface. Rupes Altai is included in the Lunar 100 because it clearly illustrates how basin‑forming impacts can fracture and uplift the crust, producing prominent scarps that remain visible even after billions of years.
