The Aristarchus Plateau is an uplifted and geologically complex region on the Moon, mantled with extensive pyroclastic deposits from ancient explosive volcanism. Its surface shows dark, fine volcanic ash and glass, along with sinuous rilles and the source region of Schröter’s Valley, indicating intense volcanic and tectonic activity. The Aristarchus Plateau is included in the Lunar 100 because it is the most striking example of a pyroclastically mantled uplifted terrain, revealing the Moon’s history of explosive volcanic processes.
