NGC 189 is a small open cluster located in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is a compact group of faint stars set against the rich Milky Way background, making it a subtle but rewarding target for observers. The cluster contains a modest number of members and appears somewhat scattered, with no strong central concentration. Although not one of the brightest Cassiopeia clusters, NGC 189 is part of the dense star fields near the Perseus–Cassiopeia region. Its faint stars and loose structure make it an interesting object for deep imaging and for observers exploring lesser-known open clusters of the northern sky.
The photo was taken with the IDAS Nebula Booster filter. It distorts the star colours, and in hindsight I should not have used it.
