NGC 1981 is a bright open cluster located in the constellation Orion, positioned just north of
the Orion Nebula complex. It contains a loose grouping of young stars spread across a wide
field, giving the cluster an airy and open appearance. The stellar population includes bright
blue and white stars typical of young clusters formed in active star-forming regions.
NGC 1981 is often imaged together with the Running Man Nebula and the Orion Nebula, forming a
striking sequence of star-forming structures.
